2. ASSESSMENTS:
PW was very cooperative and offered information of his own free will. His memory seems to be good and was very observant and intelligent. Information obtained reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
4 Jul 50: Inducted into the Volunteer Army at SEOUL and had 4 days basic training.
O/a 101 Jul 50: PW was attached to the LEE POM CHUN Unit (李範俊部隊). This Unit was composed of about 200 men. Unit moved from SEOUL to SUWON, PYONGTAEK (平澤), CHONAN (天安), KONGJU(公州), CHONJU (金州), NAMWON (南原), KURYE (求禮), CHINJU (晋州), and HAMAN (咸安).
O/a 20 Aug 50: At HAMAN PW was attached to the V Corp, 6th Div, 661 Regt, 3rd Bn, 9th Co, 3 Plat, 2nd Sqd and had his first combat experience. During the night the UN Forces bombardment was heavy so unit moved back 4 km to a mountain in the HAMAN area.
O/a 30 Aug 50: Reassigned to the 661st Regt, 120mm Mortar Co.
O/a 15 Sep 50: Again was reassigned to the 2nd Bn, HMG (Co of the 661st Regt.)

Communications:
Two runners were used between Co and Bn, and a telephone was used between Bns and from Bn to Regt.

Personalities:
PANG, Ho Sam - Sr Col, Div CO, Age- 40 (?), Height - 5’5”.
Description - normal build.

4. GENERAL:
Morale:
Due to insufficient amount of food and lack of winter clothing the morale of PW’s unit was low.

UN PW:
PW stated he saw many UN PsW near the vicinity of YONGWON (永原) o/a Now 50 while retreating to KANGGYE.

Psychological Warfare:
Did you surrender: If so, why? PW surrendered because his sqd leaders were all killed and he decided to surrender.
Did you see UN leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts? PW stated that he saw some UN leaflets at YONGWON written in English and Korean.
What did the leaflets look like or what did the loudspeaker say? The leaflets had pictures of PsW that had surrendered and a statement of these PsW saying how good they were treated and the good clothes and food they were given.
What was the effect on you? Pw saw two kinds of leaflets one without pictures that he thought of as only a propaganda leaflet and one with pictures of PsW that had surrendered. When he saw this leaflet he thought only of deserting when he had an opportunity.
Did you hear any talk about leaflets or broadcasts? If so, what was said and what happened? PW didn’t hear anybody talking about leaflets because they were not allowed to talk about them but PW stated that after the other men had read what was said on the leaflets many had deserted.
