2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but did not appear to be very intelligent nor observant. He has had no schooling. Served in his unit for only 5 days, however information obtained seems to be fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
11 Sep 50 - PW was conscripted in SEOUL (서울) and assigned to the 44th Arty Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co. Learned the existence of this 44th Arty Regt from his superior officers. he did not receive basic training. PW and 40 others from the 1st Co departed SEOUL.
16 Sep 50 - PW deserted the 1st Co, due to the lack of rations and hid in nearby villages.
4 Oct 50 - PW fled to ICHON (利川), where he was apprehended by unk elements of the UN Force.

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale in the PW’s unit was low, caused by the fact that the majority of the soldiers were forcibly conscripted into the NK Army. Shortage of rations was another contributing factor. No attempts were made by the unit’s officers to raise the morale of the men. The general effect of UN propaganda leaflets on the PW’s unit was unknown; however, they influenced the PW to desert his unit.
