Chronology:
14 Jun 50 - Conscripted into NKA in P’YONGYANG - 80 male doctors and 600 nurses. Entire body assigned to NKA military Center Hospital for processing and assignment to various units in the NKA. PW assigned to 971 Field Hospital Unit.
20 Jun 50 - Departed P’YONGYANG - 971st Field Hospital Unit with a staff of 60. 5 doctors (male), 15 nurses, 4 cooks - 36 medical aid men (EM) and all necessary medical equipment.
24 Jun 50 - Arrived YANG YANG (襄陽) and assigned to take care of men in the 5th Div, who were in YANG YANG.
1 Jul 50 - 971st Field Hospital Staff arrived in KANGNUNG (江陵) and set up a field hospital - Treated ICC wounded patients. No death reported.
8 Jul 50 - 971st Field Hospital moved to SAMCH’OK (三陟) and set up field hospital. Treated approximately 200 wounded. 3 deaths reported.
15 Jul 50 - Moved to CH’UKSANG-DONG (丑山) and treated approximately 400 wounded. Five deaths reported.
o/1 24 Jul 50 - Moved to WONGU-DONG (원구동). Treated 4,000 wounded. Ten deaths reported.
6 Sep 50 - Moved to CHOPAN-MYON - 20 km SE of YONGDOK (盈德). Treated approximately 800 wounded NK and approximately 20 ROK EM prisoners. Evacuated 600 NK and 20 wounded ROK to ANDONG. 10 deaths reported.
18 Sep 50 - Moved to CHUNGP’YONG (中坪). Treated 1000 wounded NK and 20 ROK wounded. 300 NK and 20 ROK wounded evacuated to ANDONG. 12 deaths reported.
25 Sep 50 - 971st Field Hospital Staff of 80 and 700 NK Troops retreated to north in confusion. PW managed to advance to P’YONGCHANG and surrendered to ROK CIC.

Morale:
Wounded personnel’s morale low because of heavy artillery shelling and bombing and strafing aircraft. PW’s morale low because of increasing number of wounded soldiers, and inability to give them all proper care because of shortages of medicine and transportation to evacuate wounded solders.
Saw Safe Conduct Leaflets in OH’ONGSONG (青松) o/a 24 Sep 50 - wanted to surrender but being a doctor he had many wounded to attend to, and could not surrender then.

4. GENERAL:
1. Most wounds suffered by the NK troops were caused by artillery. Others were caused by machine gun and mortar fire. Most broken bones were caused by artillery.
2. Casualties average 12 men killed in 1000.
3. No provision made to use the Red Cross markers.
4. Most cases treated other than wounded are colds and coughs - 70%
Dysentary approximately - 20%
Others - 6%
5. All medical supplies are received from the War Department directly.
6 Most commonly used medication is sulfadiazine and penicillin. Unlimited supply of sulfa drugs - limited supply of penicillin. Sulfa drugs from Russia. Penicillin from USA.
