2. ASSESSMENT:

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW entered the North Korean Security Forces (BO AN DAE) on 5 August 1950 at PYONGYANG and was commissioned a Junior Lieutenant immediately upon entrance into the service.
PW went to SEOUL on 7 August 1950 from PYONGYANG and arrived on 13 August 1950. From 16 August 1950, the PW received training at the CHUN MYON Primary School in SEOUL (location near the East Gate) on Infantry Tactics until 19 September 1950. He departed SEOUL for SONGSAN NI on 19 September 1950 and after staying in the SONGSAN NI Area for 2 days, the PW was captured by A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines on 21 September 1950.

b. Unit Organization and strength:
The PW claimed that the Headquarters of the SEOUL Security Unit was located in CHUNG WHANG CHONG, ARGUK TONG, SEOUL.
The organization of the 3rd Company, 36th Battalion, SEOUL Security Unit was as follows:
PW's 3rd Company: 40 men
1st Platoon, 3rd Company: 16 men
2nd Platoon, 3rd Company: 16 men
3rd Platoon, 3rd Company: 8 men
Due to the shortage of personnel, there were only 8 men assigned to the 3rd Platoon.
The following is the list of weapons in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Platoons of the 3rd Company, 36th Regiment, SEOUL Security Unit:
1st Platoon: Six (6) 57 mm AT Guns, with 200 rounds of ammunition
2nd Platoon: Six (6) 57 mm AT Guns, with 200 rounds of ammunition
3rd Platoon: One (1) 37 mm AT Gun, with 120 rounds of ammunition
(2) American M-1 Rifles, with 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle
(3) Japanese Model 99 rifles, with 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle
(3) Japanese Model 44 rifles, with 70 rounds of ammunition per rifle
The PW stated that the 1st Company, 36th Battalion, SEOUL Security Regiment was located in SUSAK and the 2nd Company, 36th Battalion, SEOUL Security Regiment was located in CHINCHUN. The PW further claimed that these units were armed with 105 mm Howitzers (unknown number).
The PW stated that the advances headquarters of the SEOUL Security Regiment was located at CHINCHUN, at the LEE WHA University.

c. Unit Duties:
To defend SEOUL

d. Knowledge of Other Units:
The PW claimed that the 1st Company, 1st Battalion (higher unit unknown), was on the right flank of the 3rd Company, 36th Battalion, SEOUL Security Regiment with the following types of weapons:
One Platoon: 2 HMG’s
Three platoons: Mosin M/1891/30 rifles
The Company Commanders and the Platoon Leaders were armed with M2 Carbines.
Each man possessed 2 hand grenades.
The PW stated that the last time he observed this unit, the men were dispersing and retreating.

e. Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the troops were low. They had no will to fight.
While attending the training course in SEOUL, the PW was told by his instructor that he would be condemned to die if he was taken prisoner.

4. GENERAL:
The PW stated that he had observed a Russian dressed in civilian clothing in the city of SEOUL during the course of his training in the month of August 1950.
