1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Information limited, because the informant has served with the 6th Division only 3 days.

3. DISPOSITION OF UNIT:
The 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, 101 unit, on 12 Sep 50 was on Mt. OBONG. The troops were mostly holding out in the rocky section of the mountain.

4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 20 Aug 50, with 500 others at PYONGYANG. On 21 Aug 50, the newly inducted troops were sent to CHINAMPO, where they were joined by 2,000 other troops (also newly inducted). This group of recruits were called the 596 unit. Between 21 Aug 50 and 27 Aug 50, the 596 unit received close-order drill. On 29 Aug 50, the 596 unit moved by rail to KAESONG. From KAESONG, the 596 unit marched by night to SEOUL and then YONGDONPO. From YONGDONPO, the unit moved by rail to TAEJON, then marched through mountain to CHINJU. At CHINJU the 596 unit was de-activated, and the troops were assigned to various units of the 6th Division as replacements. The informant and 120 others were sent to UDONG as replacements for the 101 unit. At UDONG, the informant was assigned to the 2nd Sqd, 2nd Plat, 3rd Co, 1st Bn. where he was issued a rifle (M-1891/30) and 50 rounds. On 9 Sep 50, the 3rd Company marched by night to Mt. OBONG (arrived 11 Sep 50). On 12 Sep 50, the informant and a friend threw away their arms and made their way to American lines to surrender.

5. REPLACEMENT:
The informant was one of the 2,500 replacements who joined the 6th Division on or about 1 Sep 50.

6. MORALE:
Morale among the troops is said to be very low. Most of the newly arrived troops do not want to fight. A large percentage of them have deserted.

7. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
Capture rifles were issued to replacement troops because of the lack of weapons.

8. US POW’S:
The informant, prior to conscription into the NK Army, saw about 20 US POW’s who were held at the former middle school in PYONGYANG, KEI MYON.
