1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Civilian occupation: Farmer
Education: Primary School, 6 yrs
PW was fairly intelligent. Information seems reliable, even though PW was confused about his unit’s history due to frequent changes of the unit designation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Inducted on 9 Sep 48 at WONSAN. PW was discharged from the Army one month later due to sickness.
Re-inducted into the Army 10 Jun 49 at WONSAN. Trained as rifleman from 10 Jun - 20 Aug 50.
PW was placed in the 173rd Co of the RR Guard Brig, located in CHORWON, 29 Jun 50.
His Company of 180 men departed CHORWON on 29 Jun 50 on foot and arrived in KYONGSONG on 2 Jul 50.
In KYONGSONG, one Bn of CO men was organized from various RR Guard Units, including the PW’s unit.
This Bn departed KYONGSONG on 3 Jul 50 via road and arrived PYONGTAEK on 1 Aug 50.
The 7th Div was organized when PW's Bn arrived in PYONGTAEK.
2nd Bn of 2nd Regt, 7th Div left PYONGTAEK on 6 Aug 50 and marched through CHONAN, CHOCHIWON, TAEJON, KUMSAN, CHINAN, NAMWON, and arrived at KURYE on 9 Aug 50.
PW's Bn camped in KURYE for 7 days to recuperate from their long hard march. PW's Bn departed KURYE on 15 Aug 50 and met an enemy attack at UIRYONG on 1 Sep 50.
PW and 19 other men surrendered to US troops when they read leaflets dropped over them during the attack.

(2) 7th Div composed of four (4) Rifle Regts. PW's Regt consisted of 3,000 men.
2nd Regt, composed of three (3) Rifle Bn’s, a Medic Co, an AT Co (45mm). PW's Bn consisted of 800 men.
2nd Bn composed of three (3) Rifle Co’s, a Signal plat, a Medic Plat, a Supply Plat, an AT Plat and one (1) 82mm Mortar Co. PW's Co consisted of 180 men.
1st Co composed of three (3) Rifle Plats, and one (1) HMG Plat. PW's Plat consisted of 39 men.
2nd Plat composed of three (3) rifle sqds, and one (1) HMG sqd. PW's sqd consisted of a men.
Riflemen armed with M18 9/30 rifles, 75 rounds. About 5 - 6 grenades to a sqd.
Sqd ldrs armed with tommy guns (140 rounds).
Ass't sqd ldrs armed with LMG (300 rounds).
Plat Ldrs & officers armed with pistols (12 rounds).
One (1) 82mm Mortar Co (80 men) had four (4) mortars, (number ammo rds unknown).
One (1) HMG Co had 13 HMG's (about 2,000 rounds to each HMG).
One (1) anti-tank plat had six (6) 14.5mm PTRD-41, of which three (3) were destroyed.

c. Equipment:
The ammo supply was also insufficient as their supply lines were frequently interdicted.
PW received one (1) issue of 70 rounds of ammo when the unit left CHORWON on 29 Jun 50.

d. Disposition:
2nd Regt Hq was located approx 8 Km SW of PW's Ban (2nd Bn) which was located approx 4 Km W of the place where PW was captured, on 1 Sep 50.
Disposition of other units unknown.

e. Intentions:
PW's Co Commander told his troops to fight to the last man and never let themselves be captured by SK Army as they would be killed.
Objective of PW's unit was to reach the NAKTONG River via CHIRWON by the end of August 1950.

f. Personalities:
1st Co C.O., 2nd Bn, 2nd Regt, 7th Div was KIM, Yur Su, Rank - 2nd Lt, age - 36.
