Assessment:
PW had very little information on the 7th Div, due to his short period of military serviced.

Military History:
Date inducted 13 Jul 50 West HAEJU (海州).
Training - Approx 2 weeks of basic training, including rifle marksmanship with the 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, a recently activated regt stationed at HAEJU. Only officers and NCO’s had previous military training. Lower ranking EM were recruits.
Tactical Movements:
28 Jul 50 - 3rd Regt rushed through training and departed HAEJU by truck (also 7 x 76mm M1942 gun 6 x 120mm mortars) and by rail
30 Jul 50 - Infantry elements of the 3rd Regt arrived SEOUL. Where abouts of truck elements unknown.
30 Jul 50 - Infantry elements of 3rd departed SEOUL on foot.
16 Aug 50 - Arrived CHINJU (1100-1350) (晉州) via TAEJON and CHONJU. Only the infantry of the 3rd Reegt observed in CHINJU.
16 Aug 50 - 3rd Regt minus artillery departed CHINJU on foot.
17 Aug 50 - 3rd arrived T’ONGYONG via KOSONG (1130-1320). Occupied city without opposition. No other NKPA troops observed in either KOSONG or T’ONGYONG.
18 Aug 50 - 3rd Regt attacked by ROK amphibious forces. Casualties were heavy, however, majority managed to escapte towards KOSONG (固城).

Weapons and Personnel:
Entire 3rd Regt was issued new Russian weapons two days prior to departure from HAEJU. Small arms, such as M1891/30 rifles, PPsh M1943 submachine guns, DP LMG’s and MAXIM HMG’s M1928 (on SOKOLOV transported to 3rd Regt by trucks from an unknown location. Two Russian colonels (epaulets - 3 stars, 2 stripes) inspected and counted all weapons before issue.

Armor:
o/a the night of 5 Aug 50 - Observed 5 x t-34/85 medium tanks, moving south on the main highway, 20 km S of YONGDUNGP’O. (990-1630)
