The United Nations Commission for the Unification and Rehabilitation of Korea (UNCURK) has held a series of meetings on 26 and 27 May to discuss current political events in the Republic of Korea.

The Commission is paying the closest attention to developments and has conferred with President Rhee on the subject.

It has also this morning heard a report from Major General Wong Yong Duk, Martial Law Commander.

UNCURK was established by the General Assembly in a resolution adopted on 7 October 1950. Among its functions are to take appropriate steps to ensure conditions of stability in the country and to follow closely the development of democratic institutions in Korea.

Commission members attending the above-mentioned meetings were the representatives of the Philippines (Chairman for the month), Australia, the Netherlands and Pakistan.

유엔한국통일부흥위원단(UNCURK)은 대한민국에서 발생한 최근의 정치적 사건들(역주 : 5월 25일 부산 일원 계엄령 선포, 5월 26일 국회의원 통근버스 구속 사건(‘국제공산당사건’) 등을 지칭하는 것으로 보인다)에 대해 5월 26일과 27일, 일련의 회의를 가졌다.

위원단은 사건의 전개에 대해 긴밀하게 주목하고 있으며, 이 문제에 대해서 이승만 대통령과 논의를 진행하였다.

또한, 오늘 아침 원용덕 계엄사령관으로부터 보고를 들었다.

유엔한국통일부흥위원단은 1950년 10월 7일, 유엔총회 결의로 창설되었다. 그 임무 중에는 이 나라의 안정성을 담보하기 위해 적절한 조치를 위할 것과, 한국에서 민주주의 정체의 조속한 발전을 추동하는 것 등이 포함되어 있다.

상기한 회의에 참여한 유엔한국통일부흥위원단 위원들은 필리핀 대표(이 달의 의장), 오스트레일리아, 네덜란드, 그리고 파키스탄 위원들이다.
